AUGMENTED REALITY
Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer.
As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one. Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match.
With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.

A SELECTION OF UNICOM COMMUNICATIONS' AR APPS:
SECOND HAND SMOKE APP
This mobile app was developed for The Scottish Government with our partner Kommando Marketing, who run the campaign.
Second-hand smoke is the smoke from the lit end of your cigarette and the smoke you breathe out. The particles you breathe out are smaller and 85% of them are invisible and odourless.
Through this Augmented Reality app, the public are also able to see the harmful effects these chemicals can have on children’s lung health as the second-hand smoke lingers.
DON&LOW DLG GRASS AR APP
This mobile app was developed for Don&Low Ltd, a Dundee based high-performance textiles manufacturing company.
Through this Augmented Reality app, the user can learn about the latest artificial grass turf products in detail, their applications, and see how the yarns are built from their elements.
ATUM DEVELOPMENT AR APP
This mobile app was developed for a property developer company in Cyprus. The app was designed with our partner ZOA Architects, who designed the 3D models.
Eden City (Cyprus) is a 200 hectare development incorporating a luxury residential community (Divina Island), a seaside complex for spa and health tourism (the Peninsula), and a cultural district for arts and entertainment (Garden of Eden).
Through this Augmented Reality app, the public are also able to see the complex. With the sun/moon icon on the right bottom corner you can change between daylight and nighttime environment.
